GUWAHATI: Gone are the days where cows were smuggled using trucks, vans, etc., as now cattle smugglers are using oil tankers to carry out smuggling. In leading to this, Assam Police could thwart a major cattle smuggling bid in Sonapur under Kamrup (M) district on Monday. Following a tip, the oil tanker with the registration number AS 05 C1655 was intercepted, from where 40 cattle were rescued. In connection with this, two smugglers, identified as Gulzar Hussain and Faizul Ali, were arrested. As per sources, apparently, by bolting open the driver’s chamber of the truck, the cattle were jammed inside. According to sources, the cattle were being smuggled from Dhemaji to Meghalaya.
